Prepare for anything, even setbacks

An Unassuming Stoic
2 min readFeb 16, 2023

I was looking forward to a brand new challenge today that I prepared as best I can for, only to find out that it was cancelled just yesterday. I actually felt pretty bummed about it because I was excited to have this new experience. It’s on me for not factoring in a possible cancellation. So the best I could do was to accept it, think it was meant to be, and know that there will very likely be a next time. Though at the same time, I felt proud of myself for being very willing to take on the new challenge. If you’re wondering what this challenge was, it was going to be lobbying at the NY State Capitol for the first time in my life and advocating for an environmental-related bill to pass through the state senate. I was prepared to meet and speak with legislators and their staff and fellow lobbyists about why my team and I were in support of this bill. This was not just going to be a professional challenge, but a Stoic one to practice building my courage and just show the fuck up. Another time will come, but for now it’s out of my control and I just made the most of today which was another good day of life.
